Sarkin Sasa Confers Traditional Title of ‘Marafan Jihohin Yamma’ on Bauchi Speaker

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has been honoured with the traditional title of “Marafan Jihohin Yamma” by the Sarkin Sasa in Oyo State, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmadu Haruna Maiyasin Katsina II.

The honour recognises the Speaker’s contributions to community development, youth empowerment, and efforts aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across communities.

In a letter conveying the conferment, signed by the Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmadu Haruna Maiyasin Katsina II—who also serves as Chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in the 17 Southern States—the monarch noted that the decision followed careful consideration of Rt. Hon. Suleiman’s commitment to humanitarian service and his support for initiatives that foster peace and progress.

The royal palace also acknowledged the Speaker’s humility and respect for traditional institutions, describing these qualities as key reasons he was considered worthy of the honour.

The title “Marafan Jihohin Yamma”, which recognises distinguished individuals who contribute to the welfare and unity of communities, is expected to further strengthen the Speaker’s engagement with traditional institutions and community development efforts.

Responding to the honour, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman expressed gratitude to the Sarkin Sasa for finding him worthy of the recognition. He described the title as a call to greater service and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, and development.

The Speaker also pledged to continue delivering democratic dividends to his constituents while working with leaders and stakeholders to advance economic growth and national cohesion across Nigeria.
