NMA Bauchi State Chapter Hosts Successful Medical Outreach at Yelwan Duguri During AGM 2023

 -The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Bauchi State Chapter successfully organized a medical outreach to conclude its Non-election Annual General Meeting (AGM) activities in 2023.  The outreach comprised medical doctors, nurses, and other health professionals who provided critical healthcare services to over 1000 beneficiaries in the Yelwan Duguri community, with the aim of improving their overall health and well-being.  Services rendered during the outreach included specialist eye examinations, obstetrics and gynecology care services, ultrasound and TB screening, as well as GOPD and Pediatrics, to mention but a few.  The Emir of the District, Alh. Ibrahim Y. M. Baba, commended the association for their impactful gesture and expressed the need for similar initiatives in other communities across the state. However, the current situation tells a different story. The suffering experienced by Nigerians today is unimaginable. While Nigeria is often referred to as the 'Giant of Africa,' the question arises: what features support this title? Presently, Nigeria bears the grim distinction of being the world capital of poverty. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, 71 million people live in extreme poverty, and 133 million are classified as multidimensionally poor. This reality contradicts the notion of Nigeria as a giant of the continent. Moreover, the title fails to resonate with the country's current state because it is marred by leaders whose primary goal is to embezzle public funds for personal gain.
